During my informal apprenticeship with Jean Dumas, Ébéniste, trained in France (my maternal grandfather, aka Papa), I learned of the great flexibility of wood, and veneers. Later I explored how I might use that flexibility to develop these exotic wood bracelets. To make the veneers pliable, an old food pressure cooker suited my needs to soften up the wood strips until I could wrap them around a form and left to dry. Urethane glue, which cures with heat and moisture, was the perfect adhesive. So, after a second dip in the pressure cooker the bracelet blank, now virtually a piece of curved plywood, was ready for shaping, sanding, and polishing.
